Can nutrition play a role in the fight against acne?

"Some foods have the bad habit of promoting acne." So far, the scientist's answer was to ignore what they thought to be a rumor ... but a new study on acne and nutrition has shown that what we eat despite everything can affect the pimples.


What is the role of nutrition in the fight against acne?

Now that most people welcome fruit and vegetables - they care for a longer and healthy life - a team of researchers has studied the influence of the consumption of these foods on acne, the skin condition that affects young people and young adults. Fifty people between the ages of 10 and 54 made themselves available for the investigation. One half of these people suffered from acne , the other half did not.
All participants in the survey filled out a questionnaire about their diet habits : the number of daily meals, the snack between meals, the consumed foods, the amounts, the drink, etc. It was found that in acne people the consumption of Fruit and vegetables were clearly lower (1.9 servings a day at 3.4).
It was also established that all test subjects clearly eat less fruits and vegetables than the official recommended amount of 5 servings per day. For all participants together (with and without acne ), the average was 2.68 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. There were 5 people who never ate fruit or vegetables and 13 ate never fruit, but vegetables.

We'll come back to our comparison between people with and without acne . The researchers found another difference between the two groups: the people with acne cuddle more between meals, namely chocopasta, sandwiches with chocolate, cookies, candy, carbonated drink ...

Balanced nutrition rich in fruits and vegetables

Apparently, the diet of people with acne is less balanced than the diet of the other group. The fact that fruits and vegetables have such a significant impact on the relationship between diet and acne suggests that this mechanism has to do with inflammation. Acne is indeed a local inflammatory disorder.
And we know that fruits and vegetables are known because they soften inflammatory reactions. In practice, it is advised young people to eat balanced if they want to escape acne . This can be a very good argument to encourage young people to eat more fruits and vegetables and to lessen the food.
